Academic honesty:

The academic honesty policy of the U of R is outlined here.

You are required to complete the honor pledge on each homework assignment and on each exam.

Violations of the academic honesty policy are not tolerated. Violations include, copying homework assignments from other students, using on-line version of the "Instructor Solutions Manual" or other published solutions to the homework problems. Other examples of violations can be found here.

Consequences of violations of the academic honesty policy:

  • Using illegal source to complete a homework assignment will results in a one-letter grade lowering of your course grade on the first offense. A second offense will result in an E as your final course grade.
  • Violations of the academic honesty policy during any of the midterm exams or the final exam (including bringing your cell phone to the exam) will result in an E as your final course grade.

Homework:

Homework will be assigned each Friday. The homework is due the following Friday at noon (EDT). Homework solutions need to be dropped of in the PHY 237 homework locker (across from B&L 106).

Final Grade:

The final grade will be the weighted average of:

  1. Final exam (30-35%)
  2. 3 Mid-term exams (15-20% each)
  3. Homework (25%)

Midterm exams:

There are three midterm exams:

  1. Thursday February 10 (8.00 am EST - 9.30 am EST, location: B&L 109)
  2. Tuesday March 22 (8.00 am EST - 9.30 am EST, location B&L 109)
  3. Tuesday April 19 (8.00 am EDT - 9.30 am EDT, location B&L 109)

Final exam:

Wednesday May 4 (7.15 pm EDT - 10.15 pm EDT, location Hoyt)

Course credit:

This course follows the College credit hour policy for four-credit courses. This course meets two times weekly for three academic hours per week. The course also includes a recitation for one and one half academic hour per week.
