Small-group workshop
Suggested uses in recitations:
- Whenever there are edifying problems similar to the homework or exams, such that a few can be solved during the span of a recitation, assign them to the small groups.
Strengths:
- Keeps all the students engaged, even the quick ones.
- Students learn better from their peers than from us, and many learn better in small groups than individually.
Shortcomings:
- Problems can’t take very long to solve -- thus the techniques doesn’t work as well in upper-level physics classes, in which short problems are exceptional.
