Suggested uses in recitations:
- When you have sensed that the vast majority of the students don’t understand a major topic, even after they have heard the professor’s lecture and read the textbook.
- Review sessions before examinations.
Strengths:
- Efficient method for presentation of a large body of material.
Shortcomings:
- If you have sensed incorrectly, you risk boring the vast majority of the students.
- Students’ role is passive.
