Wave Reflections at a Discontinuity
Description: Two
sets of bars are attached to a wire at regular intervals. A torsion wave is started
at one end by moving the first bar. Torsion waves will travel slowly along the
setup.
Experimental
setup. A discontinuity is created where the bars change length.
Where the bars change length, there will be a change in the phase velocity
of the wave. Both transmission and reflection of the waves will be observed
at this discontinuity.
