Experiment Fa-01

Pressure Independent of Direction

Description: A thistle tube with a rubber diaphragm is connected to a manometer by a rubber tube and to a handle. The apparatus is lowered into a beaker of water and moved to show that the pressure of the fluid is dependent on the depth and independent of the orientation of the diaphragm. Movie clips of this experiment are available: .avi (Windows) and .mov (Mac).
