Experiment Mz-07

Model of Foucault Pendulum

Description: A simple pendulum has a point supported on a stand which is mounted on a turntable. The pendulum is put into oscillation in a plane. This plane of motion will then be maintained regardless of the rotation of the turntable.

Images of the pendulum over a non-rotating turntable, which has been marked with tape so that the class can easily see its orientation. Note that the pendulum is swinging in the vertical plane above the longer marking.

When the turntable is moved, the pendulum still swings in the plane that was established when it was set in motion. (Note that the camera position has not moved from the previous set of photographs)

Materials: turntable with stand, pendulum
