Experiment Mo-02

Force Disc

Description: A vertical disc that is free to rotate holds strings with masses on them.  These strings are attached to a center ring that remains in the center of the disc when the system is in equilibrium.

The angles and masses indicated above balance the force disc.  These are 126.9° and 2 kilograms, 36.9° and 1.5 kilograms, and 20° and 2.5 kilograms.

If any of the masses are changed, the result will be a system that is not balanced, therefore all of the forces are not equal.

Materials: Force disc, masses, string, dial type spring balance
