Exam Policy Physics 122

Fall 1998

You can bring one cheat sheet to the midterm exams and the final exam. This sheet can not be larger than letter size and both sides can be used. Using more than one sheet and/or using a larger size paper will be regarded as an act of academic dishonesty and will be reported to the Dean's office. You can write whatever you want on your cheat sheet. So, do not spend your time memorizing formulas; it is more important that you understand how to use them !

Midterm Exams:

The three midterm exams will have the same format as the homework, except all but two questions will be multiple-choice. For each multiple-choice question there are 8 possible answers. Only one of them is correct; the 7 other answers are random numbers (this strongly reduces the chance that you can score by just guessing). There will be an individual exam for each student. Seat assignments will be posted at the entrance. The solutions for the two non-multiple-choice questions must be written up in the blue exam booklets, in terms of the variables specified in the problem, and handed in at the end of the exam. These questions will be graded by hand.

Immediately after each midterm exam, you can check your answers using the CAPA system (login as mdt122f8 and use the PIN number printed on the top of the in-class exam) so make sure you write your answers also on the actual exam. You have the opportunity to correct mistakes made on the exam during a period of roughly 40 hours after the exam (see actual due date and time listed on top of the exam). You will receive 1/3 of full credit for each question you answer correctly during this post-exam period. To make corrections to your exam, you MUST use a different version of the exam (which will be included in the exam package). This exam will have the same questions as the in-class exam, but different numbers will be used and the multiple choice feature is not present. This version of the exam will also have a different PIN number. Only the corrections made with this version of the exam will receive partial credit towards the final midterm exam grade.

Final Exam:

The final exam will have the same format as the midterm exams, except that no corrections can be made after the exam. For each question you will get 8 possible answers. This strongly reduces the chance that you can score by just guessing. There will be an individual exam for each student. Seat assignments will be posted at the entrance.
