Experiment Ol-17

Newton's Rings

Description: A plano-convex lens with a long focal length is mounted with its curved side against an optically flat piece of plane glass to produce an axially symmetric air wedge between the lens and glass plate. The system is illuminated by a laser and projected onto a screen to show colored circles. The circles are colored because the interference condition is satisfied differently for different wavelengths.
