Experiment Mu-02
Precession of a Gyroscope
Description: A
gyroscope wheel is mounted to spin about a horizontal axis. The wheel is
counterbalanced by a weight on the other end of the axle and the whole system
can precess about a vertical axis. A gravitational torque can be applied
by moving the counterbalance. The direction of this torque should be tested
with the wheel at rest. Now, with the wheel spinning in either direction,
the laws of precession may be tested.
