Experiment Mr-05

Angular Motion

Description: Two heavy weights are attached to a bar which can rotate about a horizontal axis. The system is driven a falling weight connected to the axle by a string, which is wrapped around its surcumference. There is then exchange of energy between the potential energy of the weight and kinetic energy of rotation.

The experimental setup. Note that the weights are equidistant from the axle.

This setup can also be used to illustrate relationships between torque, the moment of inertia and angular acceleration.
