Experiment Mh-03
Water Rocket
Description: This
commercial toy shows that both the exit velocity and the discharged mass are important
for moving a rocket. The rocket is filled one third full of water (to the maximum
fill line). The remaining air is compressed by 10 to 20 strokes of the pump. Outside,
this rocket will rise to a height of 150 feet. This demonstration may be repeated
with less water and the same air pressure to show that both the discharged mass
and the exit velocity are important in determining the rocket's final motion.
The
water rocket attached to the pump in its wooden holder.
