Experiment Hn-03

Steam Engine

Description: A steam engine which runs on electricity is shown. This demonstration can illustrate work done by a gas, the first law of thermodynamics and principles of engines.

Engine ready for demonstration.

A socket for a small light bulb is attached to the engine. There is a noticible difference in the speed of the flywheel when a light bulb is in this socket compared to when the circuit is not connected. The speed decrease is due to the work necessary to light the bulb.

Materials: Steam engine, water, AC power source, light bulb
