Thermostat


Description: A bimetal strip is made part of a single pole single throw switch. The circuit is connected so that a light shines when the bimetal strip is at room temperature, but not when it has been sufficiently heated so that the bimetal strip no longer connecting the circuit. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS


This experiment involves fire. Know where the classroom fire extinguishers are located before performing the experiment and be cautious with flame. Extinguish matches in water.

 

Materials: thermostat setup, electrical power source, propane torch, matches
