Experiment Em-03
Jacob's Ladder
Description: In
this experiment, a large transformer has a secondary output to a pair of large
copper wires protruding vertically. At the bottom, there is a gap where
a spark can jump and start an arc. The ionization will then allow the spark
to jump a much larger gap as the heat convects the spark up the vertical wires.
The
setup of the "ladder" and the beginning spark.
Spark
moving up and arc getting bigger.
Arc
at the top of "ladder."
