Field of a Toroid


Description: A toroidal winding of heavy wire is placed in a transparent box. The box is set on the plane of a projector and iron filings are sprinkled on the toriod. When current is applied to the toroid, the iron filings will align themselves in the electric field inside the toroid.

 

Setup: Toroid on projector bed with lead wires for applying the current.

The pattern of iron filings is projected for the class.

Materials: wire toroid, transparent box, iron filings, DC power source, projector, lead wires
