Experiment Ea-07a
Charges on Conductors (beaker)
Description: A
copper beaker is placed on an electroscope and charged. A proof plane,
a conducting ball on an insulated handle, is touched to the inside or outside
of the beaker, grounded, and touched to the beaker again. When the beaker
is touched on the inside, there is no removal of charge and therefore no change
in the electroscope. When the beaker is touched on the outside, however,
charge is removed and the electroscope leaves move.
The
grounded electroscope with beaker in back.
This experiment proves
that the charge is located on the outside of a conductor.
Elcetroscope
holding charged beaker. Leaves are charged.
Materials: Electroscope,
copper beaker, rod to charge beaker, proof plane
