Electrostatic Repulsion


Description: Two small pith balls, approximately 3/8" in diameter, are suspended by nylon thread from a common support.

The balls show strong repulsion when they are charged with the same charge from either an ebonite rod or a glass rod.

 

Left: Ebonite rod with cat's fur. Right: Glass rod with silk.

 

Pith balls are repelled by glass rod.

 

Materials: 2 3/8" pith balls, nylon thread, support, charged rod (ebonite + cat's fur or glass + silk)
