Physics 105
April 16, 2003
Today we will start analyzing our collision
experiments. Each person will analyze the 3 collisions in which they
were involved. In the analysis you should focus on the following questions:
- determine the momenta of the carts (+students) before and
after the collision
- determine the kinetic energies of the carts (+students) before
and after the collision
We will generate a table with details of each of the collision.
Since each collision is analyzed by 2 students independently,
we will be able to estimate the accuracy of the results (or spot
errors).
The results of the analyses will be compared with the measured
deformation and can types, and we should focus on the following
issues:
- determine the correlation between the total change in the
kinetic energy in the collision and the deformation of the cans.
- determine the correlation between the change in the momentum
of a cart the deformation of the cans on that cart.
