Chapter 6. Magnetostatics Fields in Matter
The magnetization M of a material is the magnetic dipole moment per unit volume.
Materials can be categorized according to their magnetic properties:
- Paramagnetic materials: magnetization is parallel to the external field

- Diamagnetic materials: magnetization is anti-parallel to the external field

- Ferromagnetic materials: materials which retain a substantial magnetization after the external field has been removed
